My daily commute has at least 3 reasonable routes which all take just about the same amount of time, but… It’s possible the route that is LONGER in miles is actually the one that is most fuel-efficient and least polluting in particulates. Why? Because of higher highway MPG being better than city MPG, which I assume is because of less stop and go. So I in general always try to optimize my route for the smoothest route with least stop and go, left turns in traffic, etc. Makes for a less annoying drive too.
