So you want to build a Zero Energy Home, huh?

7 Steps to a ZEH from ToolBase.

The idea being, that… in New England, if one can reduce the heating load dramatically, by going wild with insulation (superinsulation) then — combined with solar hot water heating, reasonable appliances and conservative electricity use in the home — one can generate enough electricity to power one’s home using a Photovoltaic (PV) array (averaged over a year via net-metering).

Want to add a plug-in hybrid? Just grow your solar array by a bit. Or even easier, switch to GreenUp if you are a National Grid customer in Massachusetts.
